RUBRIC FOR ESSAYS AND PROJECTS ON LATIN/GREEK LITERATURE OR MYTHOLOGY

Rubric standards for essays:

Excellent (4)  Good  (3)   Fair  (2)   Needs Improvement (1)  No Response  (0)

20 possible total points

If any one of the five criteria is not applicable for an essay assignment, the student will receive four points for that criterion. Rubric subject to change from time to time, but not without notice to students.

  • Neatness of paper , ( typed double-spaced preferred; an email attachment sent to me is fine in the event of an excused absence from school/class.)
  • Mechanics and spelling
  • Appropriate essay development (including introduction, three paragraphs in the body, and a conclusion.)
  • Sufficient references to the Latin work being studied; use of Latin itself always recommended wherever possible
  • Thoroughly developed expression of ideas connected to and supportive of the topic. Avoid digression or irrelevancy.

Documentation of all references to others' remarks/ideas is critical. Plagiarism on papers at Wahconah carries serious consequences, including suspension.

(Please note: Because all essays will be announced on my web-site well in advance of the due date, unless under extreme circumstances, papers even one day late will NOT be accepted. All essays will be valued as one test, or four quizzes.)

Rubric standards for projects: (Each standard worth 4 points)

Excellent (4)  Good  (3)   Fair  (2)   Needs Improvement (1)  No Response  (0)

  • Neatness of the presentation, regardless of its format
  • Sufficiency of the connection to the Greek, Roman or other ancient cultue's myth--do WE see that connection?
  • Creativity--is it the genuine work of the student, or heavily "borrowed" from commercial sources?
  • Obvious consumption of time in preparation as outlined in the original project directions; have you a log of time spent on the project?
  • Presentation to the class of both the project itself, your explanation for its selection, and your modus operandi for creating it

Documentation of all references to others' remarks/ideas is critical. Plagiarism on academic work at Wahconah carries serious consequences, including suspension.

(Please note: Because all project assignments have been announced on my web-site well in advance of the due date, unless under extreme circumstances, projects even one day late will NOT be accepted. All projects will be valued as one test, or four quizzes.)

Bona fortuna! I look forward to reading/seeing your good work.
