20 possible total points

If any one of the five criteria is not applicable for an oral interpretation assignment, the student will receive four points for that criterion.  Rubric subject to change from time to time, but not without notice to students.

  • Accurate pronunciation of all consonants, and accenting of syllables
  • Accurate pronunciation of all vowels and diphthongs
  • Observable familiarity with the text;  eye contact, audibility and appropriate posture
  • Animation
  • An understanding of the passage's dynamics, including emphasis on powerful or thought-provoking words

Because oral interpretation testing will be announced several days in advance on this web site, no student may have his reading postponed without just cause.  The oral interpretive reading will be valued as a regular test, or 300 points.
